Today, STRs represent a vital pillar of the European tourism economy, accounting for 23% of the sector, contributing €149 billion to the EU’s GDP, generating €40 billion in tax revenue, and supporting over 2 million jobs.

Regulatory STR Framework

The regulation of short-term rentals (STRs) in the European Union is shaped by a complex framework of EU laws designed to harmonize the Single Market and ensure fair competition across Member States. Despite this extensive EU-level regulation, STR accommodation providers must still navigate a patchwork of frequently changing local, regional, and national rules, which often add layers of complexity to operating across borders.
